New Listings + Artist Interviews!
Introducing John Hryniuk and Vanja Bučan, plus updates to listings for Yamamoto Masao, Sarah Anne Johnson - and more!
Greetings FFOTO subscribers,
Summer’s here and Toronto has just broken a North American record for largest number of vaccinations given at one site in one day - nearly 27,000 shots! My own pent-up “lockdown ennui” is slowly giving way to an optimism that perhaps things might return to some version of normal that resembles life before Covid - at least a little bit. Here in Toronto, we’re about to finally emerge from one of North America’s lengthiest lockdowns and I’m ready to visit museums and enjoy pints on patios, to host and attend (small) gatherings, and reconnect with people in person rather than via Zoom. Like lots of us, I’m going to need to polish up my social skills, but I’m more than ready for that challenge.
Over the past year, we’ve used our FFOTO Blog to keep you informed about how artists have been navigating life under lockdown. Our recent interview with Denis Farley examined how lockdown prompted him to revisit inspirations from the earliest days of his career for his latest work. And now John Hryniuk, who you’ll be introduced to below, tells us about how he kept his camera handy to snap on-the-fly portraits that feature people constructively making the most of recent circumstances - masked, socially distanced, and all. As restrictions lift, I’ll be curious - and excited - to watch how artists respond.
In the meantime, stay cool, hydrated, and healthy,
Craig D’Arville, FFOTO Co-founder

John Hryniuk is our latest FFOTO Exclusive artist. Hryniuk (pronounced “her-nick”) developed his fine art practice while establishing a widely respected career as an editorial photographer and photojournalist. Discover a selection of Hryniuk’s artwork and learn about his background and inspirations in our Artist Profile.
NEW to FFOTO is Vanja Bučan, a Berlin-based photographer whose international profile is growing on the strength of her award-winning output. Bučan’s compositions are gaining attention from collectors in North America, and we’re excited to offer works from SEQUENCES, her breathtaking series about the vulnerabilities of ecological interdependence.
We’ve updated offerings from FFOTO favourite Yamamoto Masao. Browse a selection of prints from his series Bonsai. Offered in a small edition of just 10 prints each, these photographs are astonishingly luminous in person.
Due to the artist’s unique approach to making his prints, we’ve prepared two videos featuring FFOTO Co-founder Stephen Bulger giving a backgrounder about Yamamoto. The video above discusses the artist’s art practice; a second video at this link presents information about editioning and pricing. If you have any specific questions, feel free to send us a note.
Recently, Sarah Anne Johnson made a decision to focus less on editioned releases. Instead, Johnson is dedicating her practice to making unique (1/1) artworks comprising photographs with hand-applied embellishments and interventions. We’ve added a number of artworks from Johnson’s latest series, Woodland, to our inventory. Viewed in person, these large-scaled pieces leave a lasting impression.
Through FFOTO we offer collectors access to hundreds of rare items, like this diptych by Nan Goldin from her 2002 portfolio Double Exposure. We’re adding to our inventory of rare and vintage prints all the time. Thanks to our network of dealers and industry professionals, we can help you track down almost anything you’d like to add to your collection. Send us an email and put us to work for you.
